“Here” Performance

Every dress tells a story; every dress carries a trauma. This performance is a revolution a revolution to embrace who we are, beyond the labels imposed by society. Each of us comes from different countries, each with its unique stories and traumas. However, we are united by the shared experience of being shaped by the conditions of women in our respective geographies, where religious, political, and social prejudices play a significant role in defining our identities.

As we wear each other’s clothes, we step into each other’s narratives, confronting the uncomfortable traumas of labels assigned by society, family, social media, and capitalism. For some, these labels are rooted in religious dogma, political ideologies, or cultural norms, all of which serve to restrict and control. They manifest as judgments about our worth, our beliefs, and even our bodies. Each label is a constraint, limiting our freedom and expression.

By shedding these clothes, we also shed the identities that these labels have imposed on us. We become more connected to our bodies, our true selves, and each other. In that moment, we move beyond the limitations of religion, politics, and social constructs, and enter a space where labels no longer define us. We embrace our authenticity, recognizing that we are all human, connected by shared struggles and the universal desire for self-acceptance.

This performance is an act of reclaiming agency of rejecting the prejudices that divide us and embracing the diversity that unites us. Through this collective act of transformation, we step into a place of solidarity, free from the constraints of external definitions, and connected through the raw truth of our own humanity.
